4 Ways to Get a Healthier Gut

Are you struggling with weight loss? Allergies? Upset stomach or digestive issues? You may feel like these symptoms are unrelated or just “part of life,” but that’s your first mistake.
Your second mistake is not paying enough attention to the health of your gut, often the main cause of those annoying daily symptoms.
The Western diet, particularly the high doses of fat and sugar it piles on our plates, has a number of major detrimental effects on the digestive system, specifically your gut and your gut’s bacteria.
You may think it’s gross to talk about your gut, (especially the bacteria in your gut!) but this is a serious subject that Westerners in particular need to discuss more openly. The fact is, you need bacteria in your body, at least 100 trillion in fact, and we’ll show you why.
We’ll also provide you with 4 ways to keep your gut healthy, so you can be proactive against the annoying symptoms of an unhealthy gut!

Why Your Gut Matters

Microbiota, probiotics, prebiotics, lactobacillus...these unfamiliar words can sound like they’re being spouted by a mad scientist. In reality, these are all just fancy names for the good-guy bacteria in your body and the foods that support them. They provide key benefits to improve your quality of your life.

Benefits of Having Enough “Good Bacteria”

  • Easier extraction of key nutrients from your food
  • Synthesization of vitamins you otherwise could not make
  • Help in digestion of proteins
  • Reduction of inflammation
  • Build-up of a stronger immune system against bad bacteria
  • Reduced emotional stress
You need lots of the right kinds of bacteria to get these good benefits. Many researchers believe the good bacteria work by outcompeting bad bacteria in the body which cause problems. The symptoms of deficiency can range from daily annoyance to dangerous health complications:

Effects of Bacteria Deficiency

  • Allergies
  • Diarrhea
  • Inflammation
  • Stomach pains and cramps
  • Gastrointestinal pains
  • Increased risk for parasitic infections
  • Struggles with obesity
  • Possible insulin resistance
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Increased risk of heart disease
Research suggests that taking care of bacterial strains in your body is a lot harder than, say, taking a Vitamin C supplement. Improving the health of your gut requires committed maintenance, but doing so guarantees a richer life with richer bacteria over time.
Here are some ideas to help get your gut health back on track!

4 Ways to Maintain Your Gut

High Fiber Fruits and Vegetables.

The easiest way to help the bacteria in your gut is by enjoying a more plant-based diet. Fruits and veggies high in fiber give the bacteria in your digestive tract the tools they need to extract nutrients from the food and build stronger communities, which means a stronger immune system!
It’s especially important to eat your fruits and veggies raw. Learn why this is by clicking here!
Examples of fruits high in fiber include bananas, raspberries, and exotic fruits like guava and noni fruit. Vegetables to increase in your diet include dark leafy greens, carrots, beets, broccoli, and artichokes.

Learn about how Fermented Foods help your gut health here.

Stress Relieving Exercise

Taking care of your gut’s bacteria is not only restricted to your diet. You also need to move your body to keep your gut healthy and allow the bacteria to distribute their benefits to your body!
We aren’t saying you have to join a hard-core pilates class and start running marathons. At-home yoga, a daily walk around the block, and even house cleaning each day can do wonders! If you are looking for a little more exercise, try going for a jog or joining a dance class with friends.

Raw, Organic Noni Fruit Leather

If you’re looking for a simple, daily raw food to add to your diet, which will make a big difference to the health of your gut, try either our Noni Fruit Leather or our Noni Banana Fruit Leather.
Both of these fruit leathers heal your body from the inside out by putting over 165 beneficial compounds to work battling inflammation, nourishing your cells, and yes, improving the health of your digestive tract!

How Noni Helps Your Gut

  • Helps reduce chronic & acute pain
  • Boosts and regulates immune response
  • Anti-parasitic, fights “bad” gut bacteria (including E. coli and Salmonella)
  • Reduces inflammation associated with allergies & disease
  • Beneficial enzymes support digestion
  • Balances blood sugar levels
  • Antioxidant defense against free radicals
  • High levels of soluble and insoluble fiber
  • Natural energy booster encourages you to exercise
If you can commit to these four gut maintenance tips, your whole body will feel better in no time!

5 Reasons To Find a Replacement for Your Morning Coffee

It’s hard to see the harm in a simple cup of coffee. But how often do you get those caffeine jitters? Or even more telling, how often are you late to work because you feel like you can’t function without getting your morning latte?
These are signs that you have become reliant on getting your energy from caffeine, an addiction not taken seriously enough. Coffee addiction might seem minor compared to, say, alcoholism, but it can do slow, steady damage to your body over time.
Here are five of the major risks of caffeine, and some tips to free yourself from a caffeine addiction while still being able to get your boost of energy every morning.

1. Your Addiction

Humans love coffee because of and in spite of its side effects. Over time, our bodies begin to think that these side effects, including pounding heart, racing thoughts, and excessive urination are not only normal, but needed. Suddenly, you’re barely functioning without that daily caffeine rush.
Our nervous system and hormones become used to the torture inflicted on them, and the withdrawal can be rough. Your productivity should not suffer because you didn’t get your coffee fix. You shouldn’t have to question whether your sleeplessness, anxiety, or upset stomach is from too much coffee or a sign of a serious health concern.
But the more coffee you drink, the more of it you need to get the same results, and the more damage is done to your body.

2. Effects on Your Central Nervous System

Because caffeine is a stimulant drug, your cup of coffee has a direct effect on your nervous system. This impacts things like our mental health and our natural sleep cycles.
Not everyone reacts the same way to caffeine. Some people experience restlessness, nervousness, and agitation from caffeine, but endure these effects in the name of energy. Take your mental health seriously. If you feel anxious after taking in caffeine, you need to find an alternate source of energy.
Similarly, caffeine usage can seriously damage your sleep cycle. Taken late in the day, it can delay the onset of sleep and make it necessary to drink even more caffeine to wake up in the morning. But even drinking coffee in the morning can confuse the delicate circadian rhythms that govern sleep. If you struggle to fall or stay asleep, or if you suffer from restless sleep, caffeine could be  a culprit.

3. Your Hormones

Caffeine stays in the body a lot longer than you think, during which time it can wreak havoc on hormone levels. Hormone levels are very sensitive to what you eat and drink, including caffeine. People who have too much caffeine in their diet find they’re more susceptible to mood swings and sleep struggles caused by hormonal imbalance.
Pregnant women and women looking to become pregnant should take extra precaution, as studies have shown caffeine directly relating to miscarriages and birth abnormalities in their children due to these hormone changes. This is why a healthcare provider will often tell women to lessen their caffeine intake during pregnancy.

4. Your Coffee’s Best Friends, Sugar, Fat, and Chemicals

Caffeine often has an accomplice, which worsens your addiction, nervous system struggles, and hormone changes. Many people drink their coffee or otherwise take in their caffeine accompanied by unhealthful additives.
Whether you use sugar, cream, or other artificial additives, you aren't doing your body any favors. Starbucks and energy drinks are perfect examples of caffeine forms that are loaded with fake sweeteners, flavoring chemicals, and preservatives.

5. See our original post to learn how quickly you can overdose.

An Alternate, All-Natural Energy Boost

We recognize that not drinking coffee in the morning is an insane request for some people, but there are other ways to get that energy boost in the morning. Noni Fruit Leather is a caffeine-free substitute that provides a natural energy boost as a raw food.
Rather than being packed with chemicals and sugar, Noni Fruit Leather made from from organic noni pulp is full of antioxidants, beneficial enzymes, and minerals. As it boosts energy, it also reduces inflammation, regulates blood sugar levels, and relieves pain.

How do you boost your energy in the morning without resorting to caffeine? Let us know in the comments!

What to Do if You Just Don’t Like How Noni Tastes

We’ll be the first to admit it: noni has an unusual flavor and smell. It’s most similar to bleu cheese, enough so that many people call it “Cheesy Fruit” or just “Stinky Fruit.” Some people call it “Vomit Fruit,” but we promise that one in particular isn’t accurate.
But it is a fact that many people are shocked by their first taste of noni fruit.
Many people try noni for the first time either when they try our Noni Fruit Leather, or when they sample noni fruit fresh from the tree when they visit our organic family farm on a tour. The fruit tastes better than it smells, but it’s always funny to watch people’s initial reaction on the farm tour.
Usually, you can acquire a taste for it over time, especially once you start to associate it with the mood and energy lift that comes with it. But if you really struggle with the taste of Noni Fruit Leather, here are some suggestions to help you get your daily dose of noni anyway.

Roll it Up Like a Pill

This is the easiest way to get your noni without having to taste much of it. It’s also a great way to get stubborn pets to take noni (although most pets seem to love how it tastes — they can tell it’s good for them).
First, portion out a 2x2 inch square of Noni Fruit Leather (our recommended dose) into a fewsmaller pieces. Then simply roll each of those pieces into a ball using your fingers and swallow them like pills. You still get all the health benefits of noni, but it doesn’t have to be in your mouth for very long!

Dissolve it in Liquid

Our Noni Fruit Leather has the unique property of being able to dissolve in liquids. This helps you swallow the noni more quickly, since you don’t have to chew it up. It also gives you the opportunity toadd a flavor that’s more palatable to you.
Try adding your 2x2 inch piece of noni to warm (not hot!) water while you’re steeping tea. Noni’s flavor goes well with many herbal teas. You can also add noni to your favorite juice — preferably homemade or organic.

Make Noni Tea

If mixing noni with your juice or tea still isn’t quite doing it for you, try the special Noni Iced Tea recipe we’ve developed here at Hawaiian Organic Noni! The recipe is naturally-sweetened, allergy-friendly, and totally organic.
You start by pureeing Noni Fruit Leather with water, and then add apple juice, more water, and cinnamon for a complex, fresh, naturally sweet flavor. We serve this tea at the start of every farm tour, and it’s always a hit!

Create a Signature Smoothie Blend

You can also add Noni Fruit Leather to a smoothie blend, where the flavor will almost totally camouflage behind the other fruits you added. It’s particularly good in green smoothies and smoothies with lots of other tropical fruits.
Tip: Start your smoothie blend with just your liquid (water, juice, coconut water, or nut milk), your piece of noni fruit leather, and any vegetables you want to add. Blending these first helps make sure there aren’t any chunks of noni or vegetables in the final smoothie.
Once you have a smoothly blended liquid, add your fruit, thickeners, and other flavorings.

Try Noni Banana Fruit Leather

We also make a different version of our Noni Fruit Leather, which is the same as our regular recipe, but with the addition of real banana. The banana adds extra potassium, so you get all the beneficial compounds of noni, plus all the goodness of ripe banana.
Most importantly, the banana gives the fruit leather a more balanced, sweeter flavor. You can still get your daily dose of noni without having to work too hard to disguise the flavor — we do the work for you! You can also use Noni Banana Fruit Leather in any of the above ways!

Use Noni as a Bleu Cheese Substitute

Some people have difficulty mixing noni fruit’s unusual flavor profile with sweeter flavors, and do better getting their noni from a savory source. Noni actually makes a great bleu cheese substitutein dressings, salads, and dips!
We’ve developed a few recipes that use noni as a bleu cheese substitute. These recipes give you theflavor of bleu cheese, totally vegan and without the fatClick here to take a look!

Visit the original article to see why NOT to switch to Noni Juice.

Did you acquire a taste for noni? Or do you have to get creative to disguise the taste? Let us know in the comments!

How Micronutrients Prevent and Heal Scars

Scarring is an important part of the healing process, but no one really wants a scar to last. Sometimes scars are out of your control, but there are things you can do to give your skin the best chance of healing fully.
One way to help your skin heal fully, completely, and smoothly is to ensure your body has the building blocks of healthy skin on hand. Skin-building takes a lot of micronutrients, which many people are deficient in.
Here’s how your diet impacts scarring, and how you can find good sources of the micronutrients that will help your skin heal like new.

How and Why Scars Form

Scars form when a wound penetrates below the skin’s first layer (the epidermis) and damages the second layer (the dermis). To repair the damage, your skin generates fibrous collagen tissue to fill the wound and pull skin together.
This layer forms in order to prevent further damage to the wound, and to protect it from viruses and bacteria, which can cause you to lose more tissue.
As the wound continues to heal, the collagen skin patch diminishes and is replaced by skin tissue slightly lighter than your other skin. This kind of scar is the least visible, and the most likely to fade over time. If the skin produces too much collagen, you end up with a raised or discolored scar.
Scarring depends on a lot of factors, including the size, depth, and location of the wound, as well as the age, genetics, and skin characteristics of the injured person. But our diets also have an impact. If the building blocks of healthy skin are abundant, it’s much easier for a wound to heal fully and with the minimum amount of scarring.

Micronutrients, Macro Benefits

Your body needs a wide variety of nutrients to operate correctly. You know about the three macronutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, but you might be less clear on micronutrients.
Micronutrients are the nutrients that your body needs just tiny amounts of to thrive. You only need a little bit of each micronutrient, but being deficient can have serious consequences. Deficiencies can cause stunted growth, weakened immune response, and problems with tissue development—including skin tissue.

Micronutrients and Scar Healing

Vitamins and minerals are the two kinds of micronutrients, and your body needs a wide variety of both to build healthy skin. Especially after an injury, your body relies on you to provide it with the building blocks it needs to smoothly and quickly heal a wound.
In particular, formation of new skin requires:
  • Vitamins A and C
  • Magnesium
  • Iron
  • Essential fatty acids
  • Varied phytonutrients

In general, you can get these by eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. But the Western diet is notoriously low in fruits and vegetables, and we tend not to eat as much variety as we should.

Food Sources of Skin-Healing Micronutrients

  • Blueberries and strawberries
  • Kale, spinach, and other leafy greens
  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots and bell peppers
  • Dark chocolate
  • Flax seeds
  • Noni fruit

Noni: Skin Protector and Healer

Of all of these foods, noni has by far the highest density of essential micronutrients to help your skin rebuild. It’s a tremendous source of antioxidant vitamins, surpassing blueberries, pomegranate, and even acai berries in potency. Noni is also a good source of a wide variety of minerals and phytonutrients.
The result is that noni is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent with antimicrobial powers, which provides the skin with everything it needs to heal. Noni fruit even stimulates and regulates collagen production, to help scars form and fade quickly.

Where to Get Noni Fruit

Most of the foods you need to give your skin the best chance at healing can be found in the grocery store, with the exception of noni fruit. This delicate tropical fruit can’t be shipped to your local market because it starts fermenting as soon as it’s picked.
Noni juice, a common “solution” to this problem, deliberately completes the fermentation process to create a stable product that can be shipped. The problem is, fermentation destroys the beneficial compounds in noni fruit, which make it so good for your skin.

On our organic family farm, we’ve found a better way to send the power of noni worldwide. We do the opposite of making juice: we make Noni Fruit Leather which is the raw unfermented pulp of noni where the 165 beneficial compounds are found. Removing the water from noni stops the fermentation process, and creates a product that can be shipped, and which lasts for years outside the refrigerator. Published research has shown Noni Fruit Leather to be 14x more potent than noni juice because of the process.

How to Use Hawaiian Organic Noni to Prevent and Heal Scars

Noni can be used in two different ways to heal wounds that are likely to scar.
First, noni fruit leather can be eaten as a raw food supplement. All those beneficial compounds are digested and used by your body to help form new skin, in addition to more additional benefits than can possibly be listed. This is healing from the inside out.
We also offer a topical noni treatment made from our noni fruit leather, which can be applied directly to the healing scar. A major benefit is pain relief, due to the phytonutrient scopoletin found in noni. The micronutrient anthraquinone helps keep infectious bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and more at bay. This is healing from the outside in.

Other Ways to Minimize Scarring

  • Clean the wound thoroughly. Dirt, bacteria, fungi, and viruses can infect the wound and destroy more skin tissue. That means a bigger scar.
  • For minor wounds, cover the wound with a bandage while it’s bleeding, but then make sure to let the wound be exposed to air to help it heal more quickly. For more major injuries, stitches can dramatically reduce scarring.
  • Don’t smoke! Smoking reduces blood flow through the body, which means a healing injury has less oxygen available to it. That increases the likelihood of the wound healing poorly and leaving a scar.
  • Try not to move the injured area too much while it’s healing, especially if the wound is on or near a joint. Stretching healing skin can result in a more prominent scar.
  • Shield your injury from the sun to protect the delicate new cells from UV rays that can cause discoloration and more prominent scarring.

5 Outdoor Adventures Worth the Bumps and Bruises Along the Way

Autumn is here, but it still feels like summertime Kauai, and that means it’s still the season for outdoor fun in the sun. Fall is beautiful on Kauai (you should come visit us!) and wherever you are, you’ve probably got a few more summer adventures in you.
But being active outdoors has its risks, and everyone gets bruised, scraped, or strained sometimes. Make sure to keep your trusty bottle of Noni Lavender Lotion on hand to help you heal quickly, with no scars to show for your adventures!
These four outdoor adventures are totally worth any bumps and bruises you might get along the way, especially if you’ve got the power of noni on your side to ease the pain and help you heal.

Surfing

This is probably Hawaii’s most famous outdoor adventure. If you live near a coast, or can vacation to one, surfing is a great way to get close to nature, get a great workout, and experience the thrill of riding the waves. Plus, you can cool down on a hot day!

Surfing is tons of fun, but it definitely has its risks. In particular, scrapes from coral reefs can be very painful, slow to heal, and prone to infection. Sore or strained muscles and bruises from your surfboard are other occupational hazards of surfing.
After surfing, apply Noni Lotion to any injuries and sore muscles, along with any other first aid you need. In the weeks after your injury, apply noni lotion to the injury about 3 times per day until healed. Many surfers in Hawaii have used our Noni Lavender Lotion for years to heal reef scrapes.
Getting banged up, scraped, and bruised is part of the adventure—don’t let it hold you back from hanging ten!

Hiking and Rock Climbing

This is another great adventure to do on Kauai. We have tons of scenic trails to beautiful waterfalls, isolated beaches, and amazing overlooks, as well as places to climb for many different skill levels. Try to make it out hiking or climbing at least one more time this season, especially if you get fall colors where you live.
Hiking has its risks, from sprained ankles to contact with poisonous plants. Climbing can be even more dangerous. But the risks shouldn’t stop you from getting out and experiencing nature!
If you do happen to run into any poisonous plants while you’re out on the trail, Noni Lavender Lotion can help you heal more quickly with less itching and irritation. Click here to learn how.

Cycling

Cycling is a sport that can truly be done anywhere, and at any skill level. Whether you enjoy road biking or mountain biking, it’s an amazing way to get close to nature and get a great workout.
But even if you’re very careful, cycling often involves “hitting the pavement” in an all too literal sense. Road rash, bruising, and pain in your knees and back are common cycling injuries. Make sure to always wear a helmet to prevent debilitating or lethal head injuries!
After your adventure, apply noni lotion to any sore muscles or injuries. After a truly epic bike ride, there’s nothing like a massage with IcyHeat Noni Lotion. For fastest pain relief, apply the Icy HeatNoni Lotion to the bottoms of your feet first, and then to the area in pain. The 2000+ nerve endings in your feet carry the pain-relieving beneficial compounds to the injured area almost instantly.

Kayaking and Canoeing

These adventurous outdoor water sports are perfect for thrill-seekers and nature-lovers alike—you can choose the intensity of your adventure. Whether you’re out on a placid lake or navigating rushing rapids, canoeing and kayaking gets you close to nature and gets your heart pumping.

The possibility of boating injuries, from small scrapes and bruises to more serious trouble, shouldn’t keep you from your adventure.
The most common boating “injury” is a fairly common one: sunburn. Sunburn might not seem that serious, but it’s still very important to avoid it, and to try to heal as quickly as possible when you do get burned.

Naturally Eliminate Head Lice with Noni

School’s back in season, and with that comes an increased risk of head lice. Commercial lice cures are full of harsh chemicals, and there are increasing numbers of lice who are resistant to those chemicals. They’re potentially dangerous, and they might not even work!
Luckily, natural remedies can remove lice without chemicals, and they’re often more thorough and reliable. In particular, a Polynesian superfood called noni repels lice completely.
Noni is a great bet for easy, organic lice removal. Here’s how it works to naturally repel lice away from the head without harsh chemicals.

Lice: Know the Enemy

Head lice are tiny, wingless parasites that live among human hairs on the scalp. They feed on tiny amounts of blood as they live and breed. Lice aren’t dangerous, and they don’t spread disease, but they are annoying. Scratching at the scalp can also lead to irritation and infection.
Don’t ignore lice if someone in your family may have contracted them. They spread quickly, especially in a school setting. It can take months of vigilance to be fully clear of lice.

Tricks to Find Lice

You can check for lice by looking at the roots of the hair for nits, which are lice eggs. Nits look like tiny bits of dandruff adhered to the hair follicle close to the scalp, but unlike dandruff, they can’t be brushed away. Only in a very heavy infestation will you see actual lice on the scalp.
Many people who have lice end up with very itchy scalps, due to a reaction with the saliva of the lice. Scratching can lead to further irritation and infection. You might even see a rash develop on the scalp. Before itching starts, the sensation can also be like things crawling or moving on the scalp.

Conventional Lice Treatments Have Two Big Problems

Why use noni when there are other conventional treatments available? It’s part values, part health-consciousness, and part common sense practically.

Chemical Lice Treatments are Toxic

Usually, when lice are discovered, you start a process of chemical eradication. The problem is, these chemical pesticides are toxic. Even though you’re administering them at a far-below-lethal dose, they can’t be great for your health, especially for kids.
You should never use more of a conventional lice product than is directed, use the same treatment too often in your life, or mix treatments. These chemicals are dangerous, and the scalp is a sensitive area. Many people prefer caution in this case.

Lice are Evolving

There’s increasing evidence to show that lice are gradually becoming resistant to the harsh chemicals we’ve developed to eradicate them. Doctors have warned for a while that this process might be underway, and we’re starting to see the effects.
Treatments don’t always work anymore. Infestations get treated more slowly. This August, in fact, treatment-resistant strains of lice were found in 25 states. This alarming trend should encourage all of us to go back to nature for our treatments whenever we can.

How to Treat Lice Naturally

You can treat lice without using any harsh chemicals at all. It takes some vigilance and patience, but to us and many of our customers, it’s worth it. You avoid the toxins of conventional treatments, and those harsh treatments were likely to fail anyway.
  1. Remember: to get rid of a lice infestation, you have to kill both the adult lice and the eggs they laid, which are each resistant to different attacks.
  2. It’s usually most effective to start by coming methodically through the hair and picking out the nits—this helps prevent re-infestation once you’ve driven away the lice.
  3. Olive oil, mayonnaise, and other greasy substances like hair gel can smother lice, but you must treat the hair under a shower cap overnight as lice can stop breathing for hours at a time.
  4. Heat can kill nits, so give hair a good blow dry after you wash the olive oil out, then do another comb-through.
  5. Clean linens that come into contact with the head, but don’t feel the need to sterilize your whole house—lice can’t live long without a host, so they usually don’t stray far.

Noni: Naturally Anti-Parasitic

Noni is a superfood with over 165 beneficial compounds that help the body fight off infection from bacteria, fungus, and parasites. For parasites both internal and external, including insects, worms, fungi, and microbes, noni is a powerful repellent.
It works on both pets and people. When taken by pets, it naturally prevents fleas and ticks without any of the side effects of chemical treatments. It can also remove internal worms and other parasites from pets, as well as humans.
We recommend using it liberally every step of the way as you de-louse.

As Close as You Can Get to Splatting Raw Fruit on Your Head

In Hawaii, many tutus and kukus (grandparents) treat lice with noni. They take a ripe, white noni fruit and smash it on the head of the person with lice. Some people claim you can see the lice jumping away!
The problem is, noni is too perishable to ship the raw fruit to people who don’t live where it grows. We’ve developed an innovative low-heat drying technique that preserves the delicate beneficial compounds in the raw pulp, while making it shippable. You can even store it with no refrigeration!
We take that dried noni pulp and turn it into our Noni Lavender Lotion, which is a great topical treatment for lice. Noni works by discouraging the lice, and convincing them it’s a bad environment, rather than by killing them.
It’s 100% organic, chemical-free, and nontoxic, plus it’s made, bottled, and shipped all from our small family farm on Kauai.

Noni: Organic Flea and Tick Preventative

Got an itchy dog?
Flea bites and tick infestations can be annoying to your pets and cause allergic reactions. There are lots of ways to prevent these pests, but many of them involve harsh chemicals that you might not want to bring into your household. Or you might be looking for something to supplement the treatments you’re already using.
Either way, there’s an organic flea and tick preventative, in the form of a raw food that’s grown, harvested, and processed on our organic family farm on Kauai.
Noni fruit has beneficial properties for pets as well as humans. One of these benefits is naturally deterring fleas and ticks.

Fleas

Fleas are the classic dog pest, and for good reason—they’re a plague on our furry friends! It can be very difficult to keep your dog away from fleas if they spend any amount of time outside.
Fleas can survive temperatures as low as 65 degrees, making them a year-round concern for many pet owners. They inhabit many parts of the world, and live in many different environments.
Preventing fleas is part of being a pet owner. Pets can bring fleas inside, and may carry diseases transmissible to humans. It’s very important to find a solution that works for you and your pet.

Symptoms

Fleas lay eggs on the skin of your pet, which turn into larva that infect your pet’s bedding and your home. When the larvae are ready, they hop onto the nearest available host and start the cycle again—often on the same pet that fed their mother.
Pets can tell that there are fleas on their skin, and they usually scratch, chew, and bite the affected areas. It’s very possible for the skin to get infected and irritated, or for an allergic reaction to develop.

Problems with Existing Treatments

The chemicals used to kill fleas are obviously rather harsh pesticides. It’s well below a lethal dose for your pet, but with low-dose exposure overtime, the results are not well-studied. Initial reports indicate that many pets are sickened or even die each year as a result of exposure to flea-killing chemicals.

Natural Ways to Prevent or Kill Fleas

  • Sprinklediatomaceous earth or borax on carpet that may be infected
  • Essential oils, including lavender, citronella, pennyroyal, and eucalyptus
  • Comb pet with soapy water
  • Vacuum frequently anywhere that your pet spends a lot of time
  • Use noni topically and give your pets noni fruit leather to prevent fleas

Ticks

If your dog spends a lot of time outside in a tick-prone area, a daily tick check should be part of your routine.
Ticks bite your pets and suck blood from them, sometimes injecting an anesthetic so your pet doesn’t notice it. They usually have barbs or glue-like saliva to keep them in place while they feed. The tick then drops off to prepare for its next life cycle change.

The trouble with ticks is, they spread infectious disease when they travel from host to host. They spread a variety of diseases, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The best way to avoid these infections is to avoid ticks if at all possible, or to try to catch them as quickly as possible.

Problems with Existing Treatments

There are treatments that can help prevent ticks, but they contain potentially harmful chemicalsthat can impact your pet’s digestive tract, internal organs, and overall health in the short and long term. As with flea treatments, it’s important to find a nontoxic solution that works for you and your pet.

Organic Tick Prevention

A good way to prevent your own exposure to ticks is to wear long pants when you take your dog out walking in areas where there might be ticks, but that doesn’t help your dog! Preventing dog ticks is pretty difficult, other than by avoiding tick-infested areas. But that’s not always easy.

Organic Ways to Prevent Ticks

  • Check for ticks often if you live in a high-risk area
  • Try lemon eucalyptus essential oil
  • Give pets noni fruit leather to prevent ticks

Noni as a Non-Toxic Preventative

Noni Fruit Leather can act as anorganic flea and tick preventative if you feed it to your dog regularly over a period of time. It’s 100% certified organic, with no preservatives or added chemicals. It’s just raw, low- heat dehydrated noni pulp, full of beneficial enzymes.By taking Noni Fruit Leatherinternally it gets in your pets system and fleas and ticks leave.

Noni Benefits

  • Immune builder: Enzymes in noni help the body fight diseases and parasitic infestation
  • Skin regeneration: Raw noni has been used for years to help heal the skin
  • Reduces inflammation: restores balance to the body’s systems and soothes pain

Bhakti Example

Bhakti is our much-loved farm dog, who runs up to us every day when it’s time to take his noni. He clearly knows it’s good for him. He’s 11 years old, but still behaves like a puppy.

Fed noni all his life, Bhakti has never had a tick or a flea, or heartworm. He’s never had shots or pills to prevent them, it is the noni that keeps him healthy and the fleas and ticks at bay.
What treatments do you use to prevent or treat fleas and ticks? Have you tried noni? Let us know in the comments!
